What lies ahead

Kickin and Screamin is doing great while turned out at trainer Mike Lauer's farm. She will come back into the track next week and we will look for a spot for her at either Churchill or Philadelphia Park. There is a race for $7500 claimers going 1 mile on the 14th at CD and a ton of options for her at Philly. While I am not 100% sure she will be as good on the dirt as the other surfaces, if the race sets up for her with a quick pace to run into I believe she will do fine.

Aldebutante has trained aggressively with the addition of blinkers. I have not picked out her next race either as I want to train her a little more with the blinks and make sure she is ready to go. Philly and Churchill are the two possible tracks for her next start also.

Redboard King has done well recently and will work this weekend weather permitting. I doubt we will make the fall meet at CD and are probably looking at a December race in Philadelphia or Tampa Bay Downs.

Harold is training very well according to Paul Barone, Gary Sciacca's assistant. They are thinking a late November or early December start for him as well.

Missus Mayflower is back on the track, jogging everyday with Hank. She got a little heavy during the downtime following her surgery and we are working that weight off of her slowly. She will Winter in Florida and hopefully start at Tampa in the Spring.

Plans for Sumwonlovesyou have changed a bit and there will be an announcement about her soon. She is doing great at Richland Hills Farm and was recently visited by Unstable who thought she was finally showing that she was in foal.

Redboard King

Redboard worked a quicker than expected 3 furlongs yesterday morning in 35.60 in company with a horse named Touch Me Quick. Under jockey Aldo Canchano, Redboard went very well while outside the other horse and galloped out well after the wire. He cooled out fine though was a little winded. We will look to work him back next Thursday or Friday, going another 3f or an easy 1/2 mile.

New race date for Aldebutante

September 20th at Hoosier going 6 furlongs on the dirt. I am not satisfied with her blood test results and believe that the extra time will help get her back to normal.

Thursday, September 3, 2009

Kickin n Screamin / Aldebutante / Missus Mayflower / Redboard King

Kickin N Screamin is scheduled to run at AP on September 24th going 1 mile for $5000. However she may also be entered in a similar spot at Turfway on Septermber 23rd. We want to make sure she gets a chance to run and while the AP race is a bit more attractive pursewise there is no guarantee that it will go off as scheduled.

Aldebutante is being pointed to a race on September 10th at Hoosier Park going 5 1/2 furlongs in a Maiden Special Weight on the dirt.

Missus Mayflower is still recovering from her surgery and has started to be handwalked daily.

Redboard King is going to work this weekend at CDT going an easy three furlongs.

Missus Mayflower recovering

Missus Mayflower came out of surgery this morning in good shape. Dr. Johnson reported no complications with the procedure and thought the prognosis was excellent. She should return to training late this fall and we are looking at getting her to the races next Spring.

July 25th at Arlington

Looks like July 25th will be the day that both Kickin n Screamin and Aldebutante return to the races. Arlington has scheduled a $5000 claiming event for fillies going one mile on the polytrack for that day which should suit Kickin n Screamin. Aldebutante will be entered in a 1 1/16th mile maiden special race on the polytrack. Originally we were going to wait for a turf maiden race for Aldeb but she worked so well over the poly last Thursday (48.60) and is so sharp that we decided to try this race.

Redboard King is progressing slowly but surely. He will move to Churchill Downs with the rest of the KY crew this coming week. Missus Mayflower is training well and has shown a lot of maturity lately. Ryan has been working very diligently with her and that work is starting to pay off. The reports from NY are that Harolds shins are progressing and he will be doing his summer work in Saratoga though a start up there is unlikely. Rampillion may be headed to Charlestown for her next start.

Two for the fourth!

Though it appeared at one point that neither ALDEBUTANTE or KICKIN N SCREAMIN might run Saturday, by the time the Arlington racing office produced a card, both Dee Tee damsels were set to run. The result is yet another first for the Stable with two starters on one raceday.

KNS goes in the opener and Aldebutante the 4th race. Attached find the complete DRF past performances for the Arlington card, and below the fields. A nice group of Dee Tee partners, family and friends seems like they will be able to make their way to Chicago Saturday, and Chuck will be there by Thursday evening. There is a party by Chuck's barn Friday evening as well for anyone that will get to town by then. More information forthcoming by Email and at Derby Trail.

Should be an exciting afternoon, particularly with Aldebutante making her 3yo debut after the 6+ month injury layoff.

And in an additional update, RAMPILLION has exited her maiden breaking win at Delaware very well, and Linda Albert is already looking for a spot to run her back. It's possible she will go as soon as the weekend of July 11.

Looking forward to an exciting Independence Day,
Steve

Rampillion at Delaware

Rampillion has been entered to run on Tuesday at Delaware Park. She is in the 5th race which is a $7500 maiden claimer going 6 furlongs on the dirt. Rampillion has drawn post position number 4 in a 9 horse field, is ridden by Clinton Potts and is the 3-1 morning line 2nd choice. The race is scheduled to go off at 3:03 eastern. Steve Byk will be attending the race with the Steve Haskin of the Bloodhorse and Dee Tee partners Dave Blaha and Darren Datillio. Be sure to stop by the paddock to say hello!

Lots of news and Updates

Aldebutante has been working very well lately and will work Saturday, going another 1/2 mile and galloping out 3/4's. We are tentatively targeting  July 4th going 5 furlongs on the turf at Arlington Park for her comeback race.

Rampillion worked in company at Bowie and Linda was pleased at her effort. She will need a few more breezes before being ready to roll but isn't that far away. Linda is based at Bowie training center and can ship anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic region from there.

Redboard King is going through a little growth spurt and we have been taking it easy with him, keeping him in light training but no fast works.

Missus Mayflower is back at CDT and will resume training shortly.

All the reports from NY are that Hal Carmichael is doing great.

Kickin n Screamin is doing great and I am looking for a spot to run her a little further than last time out.

Run Burgundy has been retired and will become a riding horse for a lady in Lexington. He simply was too slow to be an effective racehorse but should do fine in his new pursuit.

Sumwonlovesyou has been pronounced in foal and will be leaving KY to head to upstate NY in a week or so.

Dee Tee Update

Aldebutante is close to getting back on the work tab as she progresses in her training. She is due for a few strong two minute clips and will follow up soon after with a three furlong breeze.

Kickin N Screamin has settled in at Arlington Park and may run the 22nd of this month in a $5000 claiming race for fillies and mares going 1 1/16th. The new condition book just came out and there may be a better spot if we don't make the 22nd.

Sumwonlovesyou has settled in over at Richland Hills farm and will be bred to Purim soon.

Missus Mayflower is doing well though she can still be a bit of a handful. Cherie has been working with her at the end of the morning which gives her more time to ride her around.

Harold, Run Burgundy and Redboard King are all progressing nicely though slower than hoped. Redboard King had an abscess in his foot that we treated at BEC for a few days but he is back in regular training.

Rampillion is back at the track and should work soon. Plans for her next race are still in the air though there are endless possibilities.

Sumwonlovesyou injured, retired

Unfortunate news to report as Sumwonlovesyou has been sidelined with a suspensory injury and we have decided that it will be in her best interests to retire her. Here is a copy of Steve's letter to the partners.

It's taken me the better part of the day to complete this note as the news today was exceedingly difficult to deal with... Sumwonlovesyou has torn the upper suspensory ligament in her lower left front and will be unable to continue her racing career.

The injury made itself apparent Tuesday, and though the swelling had come down today, scans revealed the extent of the damage. Given her age and prior injury/illness, we would be forced to sit her out at least 6 months before re-evaluating, and there would still be no guarantee she could return at that point. As a result, Chuck has made the call that she be retired.

We have spent the day making arrangements to have Sumwonlovesyou bred in the next 17-21 days so she could deliver approximately an April 2010 foal. We will seperately address the future of the original 'Dee Tee 01' partnership and the options regarding the morphing of it into a breeding deal of some kind.

Needless to say, for us collectively, this is both a sad day and one filled with many emotions. For the majority of you, this was your 'first horse' as an owner, and marks your involvement in racing on a very different level. Sumwonlovesyou brought us into the sales ring and to four of the games most famed racing ovals: Keeneland, Churchill, Arlington and Saratoga.

In many ways, no matter where the Dee Tee Stables experience takes us long term, those first 8 months with "SWLY" may never be duplicated for the sheer excitement, drama, tension and exhileration produced. Sumwonlovesyou took us from anonymous fandom to owners of the public betting favorite on a Saratoga Sunday.

Though she could not get us into the winner's circle, it certainly wasn't for lack of effort on her part. The harrowing second place finishes in top company Derby Week, through the Arlington summer try, made 2007 a thrilling blur for our fledgling stable, and helped give rise to another 7 runners that carry or are soon to carry our Lime and Royal silks. And while there will hopefully be many more wins to go with the two by Kickin N Screamin, the agonizing but emboldening efforts of Sumwonlovesyou will always be the foundation of friendships on which Dee Tee Stables was built.

Thanks of course go to Chuck first and foremost for identifying SWLY in the catalog, authoring her improvement and shouldering a financial burden while trying to get her back to the races. Thanks to the entire CES Racing Team for their efforts with her and Cherie particularly who was frequently worn out by Sumwon in the mornings.

Bethani White gets our unending thanks as well. If Sumwonlovesyou goes on to a productive career as a broodmare, it is because Bethani likely saved her life with a decisive call for veterinary intervention on her infected hoof last summer.

Thanks of course to the 50 or so of you who eagerly sent $500 apiece into the mail to make an unlikely dream come true for yourselves and people you didn't know. And finally, thanks to the mint-crazed daughter of Came Home and Mysterious Moll who will never stop being our favorite racehorse... the perfectly named Sumwonlovesyou.

With unending appreciation for your support and enthusiasm,
Steve Byk and Chuck Simon

Kickin heading home

Kickin and Screamin is heading back to Kentucky this week after her 6th place effort at Atlantic City. She will head to BEC for a week of R&R before heading to Arlington Park to run over the polytrack on which she won for us last year.

Aldebutante is progressing nicely and will have a few strong gallops before her first work back.

Redboard King popped an abscess out of his right hind foot which led us to walking him under tack for a few days. He has recovered fine and will resume regular training this week.

Missus Mayflower is at CDT, has adapted to racetrack life and is galloping well.

Rampillion is heading back to the track this week.

Kickin at Atlantic City

Kickin n Screamin has arrived safely at the Philly Park barn of  Sharon Banford in advance of her 2009 turf debut in the 2nd race at Atlantic City racecourse on Thursday afternoon. The race, which is a starter allowance going 1 mile and 40 yards, will most likely be contested over a soggy grass course after some recent rainy weather in New Jersey. Kickin has been training well and appears primed to fire her best shot in the $20000 race. Steve was quite pleased on his arrival in Louisville last week with the fillys physical appearance, a bright shiny coat and holding her weight. Pedro Cotto will ride Kickin n Screamin who will leave from post position 3 in a field of 12 with post time listed at 4:00 eastern. She is listed at 8-1 in the morning line but good luck getting that!

Sumwonlovesyou will work tomorrow morning at 9am at CDT if the track is in good shape. There is rain in the forecast but that doesn't mean much around here. She will be going three furlongs once again.

Sumwonlovesyou works!

Sumwonlovesyou posted her first work in 18 months this morning at CDT, going three furlongs in 38.40. Cherie had a good hold of the filly throughout the work and said that she felt great and wasn't really winded afterwards. She cooled out quickly and looked bright and alert afterwards. This is a big step for her in her recovery and return to an active racing career. Bethani White did a great job with her while in recovery at BEC and Cherie has also done great job working with her since her return to the track. We will keep our fingers crossed that she comes out of the work in good shape and move along in her training.

Kickin n Screamin and the rest of the gang

Kickin n Screamin exited her hard fought victory last Thursday at Turfway in good shape. She earned a 60 Beyer speed figure for the win which is in line with what she was running last summer at Arlington Park. We are considering a start at Atlantic City Racecourse on the 23rd for her next start. it would be a return to the turf in a starter allowance race. There are logistical issues that must be dealt with since Atlantic City is strictly a "ship-in" facility and Kickin needs to be doing well in order to make such a long trip. However we will try to make this unique opportunity work for all the East coast and Mid- Atlantic partners that would attend this race.

Aldebutante continues to do well in her recovery and is about ready to begin the next stage of her rehabilitation.

Run Burgundy has arrived at CDT and is officially in full racehorse training.

Harold Carmichael and Redboard King are also at CDT and are both training fine though Redboard King has shown some attitude issues that Cherie is dealing with.

Sumwonlovesyou is training great and has had a few strong gallops that are precursors for her first breeze which should come around the 15th on the month.

Missus Mayflower will be ready to come to the racetrack around the 20th of April.

Rampillion has been slow to recover from her grabbed quarter and wont make another start till May.

Rampillion ok, Kickin In

Rampillion came out of her event filled 2nd place finish in good shape except for a small dime sized chunk missing from the quarter of her left foot. We will take her to BEC this week and treat her with hyperbaric oxygen and a special hydrogen peroxide solution, a combination that we have had great success with healing grabbed quarters with. I dont anticipate her missing much training time.

Kickin N Screamin has been entered for April 2 at Turfway which happens to be closing day. She drew post position number 4 of 12 in a $7500 NW3 claiming race going 1 mile on the polytrack. More on the race later in the week.

Sunday, March 22, 2009

Rampillion on Friday night

Rampillion has drawn post position number one in the 7th race on Friday night at Turfway Park. The race is a maiden $7500 going six and a half furlongs on the polytrack and post time is 8:11 EST. We added blinkers for this race trying to get her to focus more in the early part of the race. Rampillion worked really well this morning in preparation for this race going a half mile in 48.20. Diego Rodriguez will ride.

Kickin third in comeback

Kickin n Screamin ran third today in the second race at Turfway. She was closer to the front than usual after breaking sharply from the outside post position. The pace was pretty slow even by Turfway standards and she moved three wide to get to the front at the top of the stretch. However she got a little tired in the lane and we had to settle for third, beaten a little less than 2 lengths. All in all it wasn't a bad effort and the fact is that she is a hard horse to have ready off of a layoff because you simply cant train her very hard. There is a good chance that we will wheel her back to run on April 2nd in race with the same conditions as todays.

Sumwonlovesyou is galloping a mile and a quarter everyday and is doing great.

Run Burgundy is going to go to Keeneland on Monday.

The two Smarty Jones two year olds are coming in to CDT this weekend.

Saturday, March 14, 2009

Wednesday

Kickin N Screamin has drawn into the 2nd race on Wednesday at Turfway Park. The race is a $7500 Nw3 claiming race going 1 mile on the polytrack and she will be ridden by Hector Rosario, Jr. Post time is set for 1:37  Eastern and she is starting from post position number seven in a field of seven fillies and mares. While the morning line has not been set I would assume that she will be one of the choices.

Monday's race postponed until Wednesday

Kickin n Screamin's return to the races will be delayed by 48 hours with the announcement that the card at Turfway on Monday has been canceled. It was hardly a surprise considering that the first two Monday makeup cards failed to fill enough races and had to be scrapped. Her race had 7 in it so there is a strong possibility that she will get to run on the 18th.

Aldebutante was checked by Dr. Johnson today and he said that we could proceed to the next stage of her comeback which is to start riding her a little, alternated with aquatred treatments.

Sumwonlovesyou has started to gallop after having lots of jogging miles under her belt. If she continues to progress, her first work will be around the 20th of April.

Harold Carmichael and Redboard King are scheduled to ship to CDT next week to begin their racing careers as is Run Burgundy.

Missus Mayflower has improved her attitude and is allowing a lot more 'touching' of her. She can act like an Ice Queen when she wants to.

Rampillion is going to work on Sunday. We will choose a race to point for after her work.

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Run Burgundy

Run Burgundy will be arriving at CDT on March 15th. We are pointing to a May start at Churchill Downs for him. Kickin n Screamin came out of her work in good shape.

Thursday, March 5, 2009

Kickin N Screamin close

Kickin n Screamin worked six furlongs in 117 today at CDT. Though the work was missed by the clockers I had her going one complete lap around the CDT track in fractions of 25.4, 51.2, 103.3 and finishing up in 117 under Cherie. She returned to the barn out of breath by recovered quickly and appears ready to run on the 16th. We will probably work her one more time next week, most likely going an easy 1/2 mile before her race.

We will work Rampillion later this week, probably Saturday.

Sumwonlovesyou went back to BEC today to get new shoes put on by the blacksmith that has been working on her this winter. Ace (the blacksmith) reported via Bethani that he was pleased with her feet and he put aluminum shoes on her as opposed to the steel shoes she had been wearing during her recovery. She will be turned out for a quick little vacation till Saturday when she comes back to the track.

Rampillion's results

The most recent blood tests taken on Rampillion show that her red blood count is back to normal. We will work her again this coming week and pick out a race for her.

Kickin n Screamin came out of her work in good shape and is on course for the 16th at Turfway.

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Nice works

Rampillion worked a quick half mile in 48.40 this afternoon at CDT. Ryan worked the filly who worked on her own and wasn't pressed during the work. She galloped out well and we will draw some blood on Friday to see where her levels are at. We have added folic acid to her diet as well as continuing to give her buildup shots containing vitamins and iron.

Kickin n Screamin did well in her work, getting five furlongs in 102.80. Cherie worked her as usual and she went nicely and galloped out pretty well. She is maintaining her weight and looks good (for her).

Sumwonlovesyou is now jogging three laps a day around the track which is 18 furlongs or 2 1/4 miles.

Aldebutante is doing well at BEC.

Run Burgundy is in remedial training and will be coming to CDT mid-March. He is still a little stubborn but getting better.

Harold Carmichael and Redboard King are learning their lessons well at Rea quarter horses.

Missus Mayflower has been a challenge for the Rea's as she is really stubborn and has issues with people "touching "her.

Date set for Kickin N Screamin's next race

March 16th, a Monday, looks like it will be the date of Kickin n Screamin's next start. The race we are pointing to is a $7500 NW3 LT race going 1 mile on the polytrack at Turfway.

March 20th, also at Turfway, looks like the next spot for Rampillion provided her blood levels have returned to normal and she is training well. That race is a maiden $15,000 going six furlongs. Because she has had some health issues we will keep her short for now though we will eventually try to stretch her out.

Sumwonlovesyou continues to train very well and will have her training miles extended a bit as the weather improves.

Aldebutante has started training on the Aqua Pacer at BEC which is another important step towards her recovery.

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Todays work

Kickin N Screamin worked five furlongs in 102 today at CDT. Cherie was aboard for the work which was over a rain soaked track that was in very good condition. She broke off under a good hold and finished up well in the stretch in a very good work for her. She is about two solid works away from being ready to go. As soon as we come up with a plan of action concerning a race I will let everyone know.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Tuesday update

Kickin n Screamin will work 5 furlongs tomorrow afternoon at CDT. She wont go really fast as usual but needs to do a little more than 4 four furlongs as she returns off of the layoff.

Sumwonlovesyou has done well since her return to the racetrack. She is jogging every day and is a really happy horse right now.

Dr. Johnson rechecked Aldebutante this past week and was satisfied that she was on the right track. We will start to do a little more with her exercise wise and move on to the next step.

Rampillion's blood work has improved slightly but is still not where she needs to be yet.

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Kickin works

Kickin N Screamin worked an easy half mile at CDT this afternoon in 52.60. She did it easily and remains on course for her return in a few weeks.

Sumwonlovesyou went to the track and jogged 1 1/2 through the rain and mud with the pony in her first track action in a long time. Cherie reports she feels fine and Sumwonlovesyou was very happy to be doing something.

Monday, February 9, 2009

Sumwonlovesyou returns

Sumwonlovesyou is back at the track for the first time since the fall of 2007. She arrived at CDT this afternoon and was bedded down in stall number 16. She will get clipped in the morning before she goes to the track to jog under her old friend Cherie. TC will be taking care of her until she gets some miles under her belt after which we will assign a regular groom to her. There is no timetable for her first work or return to the races but we will keep everyone posted. And yes she is still spoiled and already is looking for candy.

Saturday, February 7, 2009

Rampillion's test results

We pulled some blood to test Rampillions blood chemistry after her dull race on Wednesday. The results came back today and showed her with a low red blood count and a very low thyroid level. We will increase her thyroid supplement and give her build up shots with vitamins and iron as well as increase her daily intakes of those things. We will also increase her ulcer medication as occasionally ulcers can cause low blood counts.
In about 10 days we will retake these tests to see where her levels are. This will prevent us from running back in two weeks on the 19th.

Friday, February 6, 2009

Update

Rampillion came out of her race a bit dull. She hasn't bounced back as quickly as I would have liked to see and we have drawn some blood for testing. Between the limited training schedule and poor weather she just wasn't herself. There is a race right back on the 19th but we will see how she is doing before we commit to anything.

Aldebutante continues to do well in her recovery at BEC.

Sumwonlovesyou will return to the track on Monday if the weather holds up. This marks a big milestone in her comeback.

Kickin n Screamin will have a work on Monday or Tuesday.

Run Burgandy will also be coming to the track this week.

Harold Carmichael and Redboard King are doing fine while training in Rea's indoor arena during the spell of poor weather.

Missus Mayflower will be going to the Rea's next week.

Saturday, January 31, 2009

Wednesday

Rampillion drew in the 3rd race on Wednesday at Turfway Park getting post position number 10 in a field of 10. She is the morning line favorite at 2-1 with Diego Rodriguez riding. Though our training routine has been compromised the last few weeks I feel she will be ready. Her last work was very good and though we were looking for a hard work she exceeded expectations and galloped out very well. Post time for Rampillion's race is 2:04 EST.

Friday, January 30, 2009

Rampy

Entered her today for the 4th. Keeping my fingers crossed that they use the race. She is doing well.

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

Rampillion's next start

There is a race on Feb 4th at Turfway Park for Rampillion. The race is a 6 1/2 furlong maiden $15000 race for three year old fillies. Diego Rodriguez will ride her back and she should be among the top choices in the race. She will work this weekend  (Sat.) at CDT if the weather breaks a bit or we will ship her to Turfway and work her there. Ideally we could get another work in afterwards but we will see how the weather plays out.

I haven't brought Sumwonlovesyou in yet because of the weather and lack of available training for her.

Aldebutante was checked this week by Dr. Johnson and he was pleased with her progress.

Kickin n Screamin will also work this weekend.

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Kickin back

Kickin n Screamin went an easy half mile yesterday in 52.20 at CDT. This was her first work since being given a rest at the end of the year. Cherie thought she did it easily and Kickin wasn't too winded afterwards. Sine we are going into a deep freeze for a few days we may not get her back out to the track the rest of the week but hope to get another work into her next week.

Sumwon will come in to the track as soon as it looks like we will have a decent stretch of weather.

New Blog alert

http://www.trainingdays365.blogspot.com/

Rampillion looks good

Rampillion returned to the barn last night in good shape after her second place showing. She was bright and alert this morning while walking the shedrow and did not leave any of her feed which is a good sign. The condition book is not kind as the next two spots for her are really not ideal. There is a maiden $15000 on the 18th but that race is cutting back to 5 1/2 furlongs which I dont want to do. The other possible spot is a race in the same company on January 25 but it is 1 1/16th which is a bit further than I want to try her right now. So we will wait it out, see what extra races come up and hope that we get a little help.

Aldebutante is recovering well after her surgery. Sumwonlovesyou is going to get reshod on Thursday and will be returning to the racetrack next weekend. This is a big step in her continuing recovery. Kickin n Screamin is galloping well and will resume timed workouts soon.

Thursday, January 1, 2009

Surgery goes well

Aldebutante's surgery went well yesterday. The chip in her right knee came out with no complications and Dr. Johnson reported that there was no ligament or collateral damage. He also cleaned up some spurs in her left knee and that went fine as well. His prognosis for her is very favorable for her and she should be back in training in around 90 days. Aldebutante will rehab at BEC while doing very little for the next two weeks. She will start back excercising on the Aqua Pacer and then return under tack after that. We will keep you updated on her progress as it happens.
