Chasm Works

AUSABLE CHASM was the first worker after the harrow break Thursday on the Belmont main, breezing 3f officially in :36.3 but working an actual half mile in :48.3. She finished up very well and galloped out strongly for nearly another quarter mile before pulling up. The work received a 1 of 5 bullet. Exciting NY horse update

Nice to be at Belmont this morning to watch Lloydobler and Ausable Chasm go through their work. Chasm was out on the training track for a 2 mile gallop, and continues to do beautifully. She'll work another half mile on Thursday after last week's :49.0 breeze in company, and is on schedule for a debut before the end of the Belmont meet.
Lloydobler has been moving much better after treatment to his left stifle last week, and galloped his 2 miles on the Belmont main track. With the warmer weather, it has become apparent that part of what has been bothering Lloyd may involve his being a colt, and consideration is being given to having him gelded. Dr. Hunt thinks it's the right move, and a decision will be made as soon as tomorrow. He looks terrific physically, and has really filled out even since the begining of the year. His next start may well be in a turf sprint, and should come later this month.
Both Lloydobler and Ausable Chasm will look to make a start or two at Saratoga, which based on the experience at the Spa with Sumwonlovesyou in 2007, should be special. More from Belmont as the week unfolds.

Next start for Kickin

The next race for Kickin n Screamin looks like June 8th at Philadelphia Park. The race is the same condition as her last race on Tuesday, $5000 nw since Dec 8, 2009. The distance is 1 1/16th and gives her three weeks between starts. She came out of the race is good order and should be ready to go again on the 8th.

Redboard King had a very good work yesterday, going 5 furlongs in 101.22. Entries are drawn on Monday for his race next Friday.

Still no date for Lloydoblers next start as Gary figures out where to go with him . Missus Mayflower will probably have her first work back later in the week.

Kickin tomorrow!

Kickin n Screamin is in tomorrows (May 18th) 4th race at Philadelphia Park. The race came up pretty light save for the number #3 horse, Marcianne, who is the 2/1 morning line favorite. Kickin drew post position number one and Tony Black will be riding her. She is listed at 5/1 on the morning line. There is a strong possibility that the race will be contested over a muddy track as rain is forecast for the Philadelphia area tonight and tomorrow. I don't know if that is a positive or negative since she has limited experience over an of track but I know Kickin n Screamin will give her best as she has in every one of her 25 starts for Dee Tee Stables.

Redboard King came out of his race in great shape and May 28th at Philadelphia Park looks like his next race. That spot is the same maiden claiming $40000 that he just ran 2nd in, going six furlongs.

Lloydobler also came out of his race at Belmont no worse for wear and there are a number of spots that we are considering for him including a possible turf start.

Missus Mayflower has been galloping and isn't far from her first breeze since her shins started bothering her.

Lloyd and Redboard

63 Beyer for Redboard King in his excellent 2nd start. What became apparent to Chuck via Tony Black the last couple of weeks following workouts, was that the kid who rode Redboard in his bow simply stopped riding the gelding early on and just went around with him. This was the kind of performance Chuck expected from Redboard first start, and he continues to improve as he builds strength in his hind quarters. He's going to be a nice horse by the summer, and thanks go out to Tony for suggesting this race. The 3-5 favorite would have had to fall down to lose, but Redboard's effort was very solid as he learns lessons. Grass and 1 mile or more is likely where he'll prove best, so this was a great next step in his career development

74 Beyer for Lloydobler in a run that was actually better than it looks at first glance, as he paired up to his previous best figure which came on the Wood undercard five weeks ago. Having missed a handful of days due to an achy stifle and lousy weather over the last three weeks, Lloydobler tired three-sixteenths from the wire after chasing the first half mile in :23.0 and :46.2. He will likely turn around in 3-4 weeks for a spot that might include a move to grass, and he should be at premium fitness. The problem our Smarty Jones colt faces is that he may being falling into that quirky middle ground between Maiden Special and $50,000-$65,000 Maiden Claiming company. The A.P. Indy-Got Koko son Cocalero who won rather easily, will receive at least a 91 Beyer for his debut. That shows the challenge we face now with the big barns back from Florida, as there may always be a Cocalero, or 2, in every MSW this time of year.

Lloyd, Redboard. MM, etc.

Lloydobler came out of his stellar second place finish last week in good shape and will be pointed for a start early in the Belmont meet. He displayed good early speed and a great deal of grit in his 4th start and third in the money finish.

Redboard King is in on Monday at Philadelphia Park in the 6th race which is a maiden special weight race going 6 1/2 furlongs. He drew post four in a field of eight and is going to be ridden by Kendrick Carmouche. We are hoping for a good trip and want to gain a little experience and added fitness moving forward.

Missus Mayflower arrived in Philadelphia on Friday and will go back under tack on Monday.

Kickin n Screamin is scheduled to work tomorrow and again next week prior to her next start on April 24th on the turf at Atlantic City.

Lloyd runs third

Lloydobler ran a good third for DeeTee Stable in last Thursdays third race at Aqueduct. After breaking sharp from post two, Lloyd moved to the lead under jockey Richard Migliore, remained there past the head of the stretch and stayed on nicely when passed in the stretch. It was a nice effort for the colt who wound up getting beat by four lengths after showing a new dimension with the early speed. A trip over the main track at Aqueduct mid-April is his next likely objective.

Kickin n Screamin goes after her 4th victory in the Dee Tee colors today in the 3rd race today at Philadelphia Park. She is the 2-1 morning line favorite coming off of a good second in the same 5000 class last time.

Redboard King continues to train forwardly in Ocala.

Missus Mayflower still has a sore shin which has prevented us from doing much with her.

Aqueduct brought back today's cancelled race for LLOYDOBLER on Thursday as the 3rd... Same field but with the addition of a fast-looking Asmussen colt that C.C. Lopez sticks with. Rich Migliore picks up the mount on Lloyd...

If it wasn't for bad luck...

Poor weather has forced NYRA to cancel today's card at Aqueduct meaning Lloyddobler wont be breaking his maiden today. This Winters weather has been particularly nasty and even with the warmer temperatures that March has brought us, there are lingering issues both up North and down South. I am not sure what the immediate options are with Lloyd but hopefully we can get back into a similar race soon.

Missus Mayflower has had some issues with her shins crop up this week which may cause us to miss the Tampa meet and point towards Philadelphia and the mid-Atlantic area this Spring. After a few more days of therapy we will make a decision on how aggressively we are going to treat the shins.

Redboard King has trained really well and seems to have turned the corner towards becoming a racehorse. He is going to work on Monday, going 5 furlongs on the dirt. We are looking at an early April start either at Tampa on the turf or Philadelphia on the dirt. Options for him later this Spring and moving into Summer include Indiana Downs, Churchill Downs, Arlington Park, Delaware or maybe even the much hyped Monmouth uber purse meet.

Kickin n Screamin is going to work tomorrow or Monday depending on the condition of the track and be entered for $5000 nw1 in 6 months race next Sunday at Philadelphia Park.

Not quite ready...

Missus Mayflower was not quite ready to make the March 4th race we originally had selected for her. Her new target is the same race (maiden 12500 going 5 furlongs) at Tampa on March 24th. She worked 5 furlongs over the deep surface at the Classic Mile in 103 yesterday and schooled in the gate as well.
